Hi there, itβs Jeong-ah Youm from Edmonds Diary π
It was one of those Sundays when the sun was so bright you could see every ridge of the mountains far across the water. So I took a slow walk around downtown Edmonds, right near our clinic. Itβs a small town by the sea, about 30 minutes north of Seattle, and with the beach, the ferry, the fall colors and great food, itβs perfect for a half-day stroll. Let me show you around!
βοΈ Starting slow by the beach Our walk began by the water. The autumn breeze was a little chilly, but the sunshine was warm and the sea was sparkling. Big driftwood logs lie across the sand, and lots of people sit on them just to watch the waves. Simply walking along to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore makes you feel so calm.
β΄ Take the ferry from here to Kingston Edmonds has a ferry terminal, so you can hop on a boat and cross over to Kingston. From Kingston, you can drive on to Olympic National Park. On weekends, lots of people drive their cars onto the ferry, and just watching the boats come and go is a simple little joy. π‘ Tip: I hear that exploring downtown and then taking the ferry over to Kingston makes a perfect day trip.
π Cross the railroad tracks into downtown Right after you cross the railroad tracks from the beach, downtown begins. Itβs just a short walk, so itβs easy to enjoy the beach and downtown all in one go.
Main Street and its little side streets are lined with small galleries, gift shops and cafΓ©s. Every shop window is decked out with pretty fall decorations, so you can lose track of time just window-shopping. Strolling slowly and crunching through the fallen leaves seems to be the real charm of walking in this town.
Right in the middle of downtown, thereβs a small plaza with a fountain, and the trees around it are turning red and yellow right now. Itβs so beautiful. Thereβs a Starbucks right next to the plaza, and of course people were sitting at the outdoor tables with warm coffee, soaking up the weather and the fall colors. Be sure to take at least one fall photo of Edmonds here πΈ
π¦ MARβ’KET, the seafood spot people line up for The highlight of our walk was the seafood spot MARβ’KET. Itβs a really popular place. There was already a long line when we got there, but it was totally worth the wait. Finally, the lobster roll! π¦ The bun was packed with lobster meat, and I was amazed from the very first bite. The chicken strips my daughter had were so tender and tasty, I almost wondered if weβd ordered fish and chips. All three of us cleaned out every last fry π
After a big meal, we walked a little longer under the fall leaves, and before we knew it, the sun was going down. Itβs not a big town, but it has the sea, charming streets and great food, so itβs a lovely place to spend a relaxed day. If youβre visiting Seattle, set aside half a day and be sure to stop by Edmonds too π
